FIRE IN ELK RIDGE

The following are updates on what’s been happening in Elk Ridge Utah. I have been in complete shock and didn’t get nearly enough out when I had the chance. I hope our house does not burn!

FIRE UPDATE: The fires in Utah County are listed as the number one priority fire in the country. Switchbacks are now on fire above Woodland Hills and there are spot fires at mouth of Santaquin Canyon. Crews from all over are working to keep people and property safe.

Update since Sgt. Cannon's post 3 Hours ago.  The Fire Authority initially had several cities in a pre-evacuation status including Covered Bridge.  We are now recommending upgrading Covered Bridge to Evacuation Status.  Woodland Hills and Elk Ridge would also be advised to evacuate due to the wind changing around midnight.  We are working with the Red Cross and Nebo School District to facilitate Shelters at Salem Hills High School and Maple Mountain.  These are not yet firm.  Please call your neighbors and Please hang something on your doorknob to indicate your have evacuated or at least are aware.

UPDATE: S: MANDATORY EVACUATION Elk Ridge Evacuation Plan.

We have been given the following update on the fire.

"This morning showed low winds which helps but forecasts are showing increasing winds through the afternoon and this evening. The two fires have now converged into one large fire. It has moved onto the front of Mt. Loafer in the form of small spot fires. It's also been reported that some small ground fires have been extinguished in and around the cabins up loafer.

They have pulled out the local fire departments and are replacing them with the arriving federal strike teams. There has not even been close to one house burning up here in Elk Ridge, smoke is getting a little worse but still livable.

The concerns again will be the wind and its direction and with the spot fires on the front of Mt. Loafer, Woodland Hills can use our prayers."

Please be cautious in and around Elk Ridge and Woodland Hills. If you don't need to be in the area please don't come. I am keeping a close eye on the ward and making sure everything remains safe. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact the Relief Society or Elders Quorum presidents and they can help you or relay the information to me.
